If you train at River City Strength or you’re just someone trying to stay consistent, here’s some advice: take it easy.
Fiesta is happening. Playoff basketball is on. And the weather outside feels specifically designed to make you want to do nothing. San Antonio basically shuts down every spring for a reason, and if your workout routine is one of the casualties this week, you are not alone and you are not behind.
One Week Is Not the Problem
After nearly 20 years of coaching, I can tell you with confidence: one week off does not erase your progress.
Muscle does not disappear in seven days. Your cardiovascular fitness does not reset. What you have spent months building is still there. The scale might be up a little next Monday, but that is sodium and Fiesta food doing what sodium and Fiesta food do. It’s not a setback.
The thing that actually derails people is not the week off. It’s the guilt that follows the week off. It is letting one skipped week turn into two because you feel like you already blew it. That is the only version of this can mess it up.
You’re Already Doing Something Right
Here is what I know about you: you read gym blogs. Maybe not every one, but you are here right now, which means health and fitness is still somewhere on your radar even during the most distracting week San Antonio throws at us all year.
That matters. Staying connected to your health, even loosely, is part of what keeps the habit alive between the hard stretches.
Consistency in personal training and fitness for adults does not look like perfect attendance. It looks like coming back…
Over and over and over.
What to Do This Week
- Skip the gym if you need to. It is not going anywhere.
- Do not stress about tracking calories. Eat the food.
- If the scale is up Monday, breathe and move on.
- When Fiesta is over, get back on track as fast as you can. No reset, no punishment workouts, no drama.
That is the whole plan.
If You Are Still Showing Up
If you are still making it into the gym this week, still eating well, still holding the line during one of San Antonio’s biggest party weeks of the year, that’s a real sign of how far you have come.
