Burpees are the exercise world’s rendition of stupid food fusions.
Chipotle fudge brownies.
Why do we have to fuck it up and smash it together?
Chipotle pepper, delish.
Fudge brownie, even better.
But together? C’mon!
A burpee is smashing otherwise fine exercises into a sweating injury prone mess.
Squat. Jump. Push Up.
Independently amazing, hell, in succession they make for a helluva training session.
But smash ‘em together?
Sorry Chef, I’m sending this hot mess back.
The Difference Between Working Out and Training
Working out can be a sweaty heart pumping hodge-podge with no clear outcome other than get tired.
Training can be those things too, just with a distinct physiological outcome and progression.
It’s exercising with a plan.
An effective training program doesn’t need to have all sorts of complicated fancy exercises either.
Burpees. Tire flips. Box jumps for max reps.
If your training to get better at these specific movements for a competition or obstacle course, ok.
But there’s just a hundred different exercises that can provide a similar outcome with less impact and risk of injury.
Consistency
Health and wellness is built on a steady diet of simple consistency.
It doesn’t need to be intense. It doesn’t need to be different for the sake of being different.
It just needs to be something you can do repeatedly and progress in.
Leave the Chipotle fudge brownies to those IG food gurus.
They can take the burpees with ‘em on the way out.
